Plague is a zoonotic disease circulating mainly among small animals and their fleas. However, the causative bacteria can infect the humans also. It is transmitted between animals and humans by the bite of the infected animal, direct contact, inhalation and even ingestion of the infected material. Plague can be a very serious disease among humans, with a case:fatality ratio of 30%:60% if left untreated.
The indications include:
• Swollen lymph glands in the , under the , or on the neck, depending on the locations of the flea bite.
• Tender lymph nodes
• Swollen groin lymph nodes
• Swollen arms lymph nodes
• Fever, chills and prostration
