Pleurisy, also known as Pleuritis, is an inflammation of the pleural membrane, a thin protective membranous lining over the lungs. This causes sharp pain during inspiration as the inflamed membrane rub against each other when the lungs expand. Viral infection is the most common cause of pleurisy.
The indications include:
• Chest pain ,(mild or severe) like dull ache, a burning sensation or a sharp stabbing discomfort
• Chest pain get worse on movement ,breathing or coughing and gets better on taking shallow breaths or lying on the side that hurts.
• Cough, may be a dry cough or may produce mucus or blood.
• Shortness of breath
• Sore throat
• Fever and chills (caused by infection)
• Unexplained weight loss
