Measles Vaccine

Measles vaccine is a live, attenuated vaccine it is given  as part of the MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella (German measles) .This vaccine is a shot given subcutaneously (in the fatty layer of tissue under the skin).Two doses of measles vaccine  are recommended for all children and certain adolescents and adults.

Recommended age of administration:

• The first dose should be at 9 months.

The Measles should not be given to people who have-

• An allergy to gelatin or the antibiotic neomycin serious enough to require medical treatment.

• A weakened immune system due to certain cancers, HIV, steroid drugs, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or other immunosuppressant drugs.

• Pregnant women should not receive this vaccine.
