Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeries-Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty or “Tummy Tuck” is the cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen more firm. It involves the removal of excess of skin or fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall.

Abdominoplasty is usually sought by women with loose tissue after pregnancy or by people with sagging skins after major weight loss. Abdominoplasty helps in achieving a slimmer, more aesthetically appealing abdominal contour. The ideal candidate of tummy tuck procedure is someone who is unable to tone his/her abdominal region even with the help of healthy diet and exercise routine.

During the abdominoplasty procedure, the surgeon manually tightens the muscles of the abdominal walls and sutures them into place. The excess skin from the patient’s abdomen is then removed to create a finer flatter midsection. The procedure can be customized according to the patient’s specifications and may involve liposuction or be combined with other body lift procedures.

The risks involving the procedure are swelling, bruising and discomfort including post-surgical complications like infections and blood clots, which could slow down the healing process. Surgical complications from abdominoplasty are very rare, and the risks can be greatly reduced by the selection of a well qualified surgeon.
