Natural and Home Remedies » Benefits of Natural Light
While many people are well aware of the dangers of too much exposure to sunlight, not everyone is aware of the beneficial aspects of short periods of exposure to natural light. In fact, enjoying the daylight from time to time can make a big difference in how people feel, think, and perform.
Natural light is pleasing in general for most people and is also beneficial to health. Natural light of the sunlight is an effective germ-killer, and is also linked to improving moods and assisting in curing some illness.
Sunlight can kill bacteria present in dust particles and other germs that could be spread around in the surrounding area. It is the ultraviolet rays in sunlight that act as a natural antiseptic that improves home environment. To get the most out of the sun, hang blankets and quilts or other items outside in the sunshine for a few hours to kill any virus, bacteria or mold on them. Killing germs is only one of the few health benefits that natural light offers and it is a great start to keeping the family safe and healthy.
Lack of exposure to natural light has been linked to disorders such as: seasonal affective disorder, rickets, depression, and osteoporosis. Natural light helps keep children calmer, which is important for moderately to severely disabled children, especially autism. Our bodies need natural light to make vitamin D which helps with some of those disorders, but sunlight, apart from providing Vitamin D, helps balance hormones and encourages healthy blood circulation to improve overall health.
Vitamin D is an essential vitamin that helps with alleviating depression, aids in the absorption of other vitamins and minerals, and is believed to help minimize the chances of developing several types of cancer. Since Vitamin D is produces the moment that sunlight touches your skin, short periods of exposure to natural light will allow to easily obtaining enough Vitamin D each day to help the body fight off a number of ailments.
Although there are other ways to get Vitamin D, sunlight offers the best source to produce it naturally inside the body. Daily exposure to sunlight also leads to the increase in the white blood cells, which enhances the immune system and improves digestion and metabolism.
This does not mean that one should lie in the sun the whole day. Overexposure to sunlight has lot of health hazards and we all know about it. Spending just about 10 minutes a day in natural sunlight is enough for the body to regulate itself and get all the benefits from the sunlight it can!
