Tulsi or The Holy Basil is an erect, highly branched shrub with hairy stems and highly scented green leaves. This small shrub has worldwide recognition as a medicinal wonder and offers remedies against various ailments. It has got both medicinal and religious importance. Traditionally, Tulsi is taken as herbal tea, dried powder, and fresh leaf or mixed with ghee.

  • Due to its strong aroma and astringent taste, it is regarded as an “elixir” to life and is believed to promote longetivity.

  • Considered to be an adaptogen, Tulsi helps in balancing different process of the body and is very helpful in adapting to stress.

  • Know for its healing properties in Ayurveda, Tulsi extracts have been prescribed for common cold headaches, sore throat, stomach disorders, inflammation, heart disease, various forms of poisoning, and malaria.

  • Tulsi has been studied to be an effective treatment for diabetes by reducing blood glucose levels, due to its antioxidant properties.

  • Tulsi has anti-pollutant and air purifying, antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial properties and is also, considered to be an effective painkiller.

  • Dried leaves of Tulsi have been used with stored grains to repel the insects.

  • Tulsi powder mixed with neem powder and a few drops of lemon juice prove to be an effective treatment against dandruff. 

  • It can inactivate viruses, bacteria, and cancer cells, scavenge free radicals in the body, stimulate the immune system , and prevent degenerative diseases.  

  • It can be also used successfully against leucoderma.

  • Tulsi leaves act as nerve tonic; they enhance stamina and endurance and also helps in sharpening the memory.

  • Tulsi leaves can be used as mouth wash for relieving tooth ache and is useful in pyorrhea.

  • It can counteract bad breath and its juice can be used for massaging the gums.

  • Applying Tulsi juice mixed with Camphor on forehead relieves headache.

  • Tulsi leaves and Ajwayan kept under the pillow induces sleep and helps fight insomnia.

  • Deep breathing (Pranayam) in the vicinity of Tulsi prevents many diseases.
