Good fats mean essential fatty acids or non-saturated fats, both polysaturated and monosaturated. This type of fat is needed for a healthy body.
• Fat is the fuel for the body to produce energy. It helps the heart to beat in rhythm.
• Body needs fat to produce hormones. Fats help to ease inflammations, thereby keeps a check on the immune system of the body.
• A fat protect the blood vessels from damages and repairs them when damaged. It is responsible for building cell membrane.
• Fat is essential for the absorption of fat soluble vitamins into the body.
• A fat free diet on a long term results in dry skin, dry hair, hair loss, tiredness, joint pains etc.
• Fat plays an important role in the development of fetal brain. In fact, fat makes 60% of the brain and is needed for brain function and boosts memory and mood.
• Fat lubricates the internal organ and forms a cushion over them.
• Proteins along with fats in diet are a good and healthy combination. While carbohydrates with fat are a wrong combination as it causes an increase in cholesterol level and weight gain.
• Olive oil is a better choice for salad preparations, but not for cooking. Coconut oil can be used for cooking.
• Some fishes contain these essential fat oils. Eg: Salmon, sardines, tuna, mackerel etc. Nuts are a good source of good fats.
