The liver is one of the key organs whose normal functioning is almost necessary to lead a normal life. Cirrhosis is chronic illness of the liver. The liver tissue is replaced by fibrous scar tissue. This scar tissue partially blocks the blood flow to the liver cells. This leads to the loss of liver failure. A health liver can usually replace dead cells but in advanced Cirrhosis the liver is no longer able to replace the dead and damaged cells. Ascites is another disorder of liver closely related to Cirrhosis. This is caused by the retention of fluid in the peritoneal cavity leading to infection. |
