The liver is one of the key organs whose normal functioning is almost necessary to lead a normal life. Cirrhosis is chronic illness of the liver. The liver tissue is replaced by fibrous scar tissue. This scar tissue partially blocks the blood flow to the liver cells. This leads to the loss of liver failure. A health liver can usually replace dead cells but in advanced Cirrhosis the liver is no longer able to replace the dead and damaged cells. Ascites is another disorder of liver closely related to Cirrhosis. This is caused by the retention of fluid in the peritoneal cavity leading to infection.
There are two types of cirrhosis,
• Compensated cirrhosis: The scaring of tissue is not severe and the functioning of body is fair. Patients with compensated cirrhosis may experience only few symptoms or in some case no symptoms.
• Decompensate cirrhosis: The scarring of tissue is severe and this disrupts the normal functioning of the body.
