Dracontiasis (Guinea worm) or dracunculiasis is a topical disease caused by guinea-worm; acquired by drinking contaminated water. Since 1986, the global prevalence of dracontiasis has been reducing by 97% and it is expected that the disease will be eradicated in the near future. Dracunculiasis is an infection of the subcutaneous and deeper tissue with a large nematode. A blister appears, usually on a lower extremity especially the foot.
