Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection, caused by Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). It spreads from an infected person to others by vaginal, anal or oral sexual contact, especially when having unprotected sex or if the infected area comes in contact with the vaginal, oral or anal area. Genital herpes are estimated that one in five adults in U.S are infected. If once a person is infected with HSV it will stay in their body for lifetime. The symptoms are known to come and go in certain cases. "Herpes outbreak" is the term given for the condition when the symptoms are seen. This virus cannot live outside the body. It will not get transmitted from objected touched by infected people like may be a toilet seat. Types: • Type 1or HSV-1 is the primary reason for oral herpes lesions, often known as fever blisters or cold sores. • Type 2, known as HSV-2 is the primary reason for genital herpes. |
