Hepatitis B is a chronic infection caused by Hepatitis B virus (HAB). which results in inflammation of liver. HAB is double stranded DNA virus and belongs to family Hepadnaviridae. It is major global health problem and serious from other types of hepatitis. Hepatitis B is transmitted through blood transfusions, unprotected sexual contact, reuse of contaminated needles & syringes, and vertical transmission from mother to child during child birth.

About 2 billion are affected world wide every year and 350 million people are affected by Chronic Hepatitis B.

It occurs in two stages Acute and Chronic

Acute Hepatitis B - it lasts for short time and leads to inflammation of liver, vomiting, jaundice and rarely death.

Chronic Hepatitis B - it lasts for long period and leads to liver cancer, liver cirrhosis.
