The term Meningitis refers to inflammation of the pia and the arachnoid membranes, the protective coverings, of the brain and the spinal cord, and the fluid in the space which they enclose. This is usually caused by bacteria. Rarely viral and fungal meningitis are also seen. Meningococcal infection occurs more commonly in children and young adult. It is more commonly observed in males more than the female and more commonly in adults under crowded living conditions. |
