Rabies is an acute viral infection affecting the nervous system of the animals. It can be transmitted to humans by a bite or by the exposure of broken skin to the infected animal’s saliva. Treatment of an infected person is critical. It left untreated, rabies causes a painful death. Bats, foxes and other animals are other source of rabies virus. Rabies virus travels to the brain followed by peripheral nerves. Once the rabies virus reaches the central nervous system symptoms begin to show.
