A Cataract is a clouding of the lens in eyes there obstructing the passage of light leading to blurredness of image that falls in the retina. The lens is the part of the eyes sits in the center of the iris. The lens is a clear part of eyes. Cataract can occur in both eyes and usually one eyes is affected sooner that the other. It is found to be common above 80 years old. The development of cataracts is generally a gradual process but sometimes it may occur rapidly.

Types:
   

• Congenital or infantile cataracts: Some babies are born with a cataract and some develop them at a very young age. Usually these cataracts are small and if they affect vision they will have to be corrected by a surgery. 

• Sub capsular cataracts: This is seen at the back of the lens in beginning. People with diabetes, farsightedness or those having high doses of steroid may develop this.

• Nuclear cataract: Here the cataracts are found in the center of lens.

• Cortical cataract: This is found to occur primarily in the cortex of the lens and it gradually spreads to the center of the lens.
