Diseases » Foot Pain

The foot region is made up of 26 bones and 33 joints. There is a layer of 126 intertwining foot muscles, ligaments and nerves. The foot bones form two arches. The longitudinal arch is seen through out the length of the foot and the transverse arch forms the width. These bones held together by a fibrous tissue known as ligaments. The foot has fat pads that help with bearing weight and in absorbing the impact during that time. Foot pain is generally defined by one of three sites of origin of toes, the forefoot and the hind foot. About 20% of all musculoskeletal complaints are related to the foot.
