Coronary bypass operation is intended to increase the blood supply of the heart. There are various factors which decide the result which include the type and extent of the blocks, the quality and size of the grafted blood vessels, the conduit used for the operation and the technical perfection of the operator. After a properly performed bypass surgery the blood supply to the heart will be as good as of a normal person. The only difference is that the blood will reach the heart muscle through the newly created routes. Cholesterol can affect the bypassed heart as much it can affect the nonbypassed hearts. But the disease process is already there which can progress. This process has nothing to do with the bypass procedure.
